Melbourne Opera brings you one of the oldest mythical love stories, Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde – considered by many to be his greatest music, certainly one of the most popular.
Recent productions of Lohengrin, Tannhäuser and Rienzi have all received critical and popular acclaim. This new production directed by Suzanne Chaundy presents a unique opportunity to see a masterpiece last seen in Melbourne seventeen years ago – proudly supported by the Richard Wagner Society of Victoria.
With a strong cast headed by English tenor Neal Cooper, joined by soprano Lee Abrahmsen (Lee sang the role of Elizabeth in Tannhauser in 2016 for our company), you should enjoy an exhilarating evening.
“The extraordinary form and miasmic, restless shifting and questioning of the music leads the audience into an altered state.” Read more from our director, Suzanne Chaundy, on the inspiration and philosophy behind this famed classic.
